November Full Swing Express!

Just one more weekend to go before Windy Lindy! We’ve added some fun for both Saturday and Sunday with a Blues after-party kindly hosted by Damon on Saturday and dancing under the sails on Queens Wharf on Sunday afternoon! We’re also up to the last block of the year and are very happy to announce to launch of level 2 burlesque classes (not for the faint-hearted!) and a move to its very own night with both levels now moving to Thursdays. Replacing the Burlesque on a Wednesdays we will be having a “taster” class for those of all levels, and will include such delights as the Shim-Sham, Big Apple and Charleston. Hope to see you all there!

1. Class Update – New courses  and new times start this week! (Wed and Thur)

An exciting week ahead with new 6 week courses starting this week in both the CBD (Wed) and Petone (Thur), with Burlesque moving to its very own night on Thursdays in the CBD. 

Please note that this is the last block for the year, so if you’ve been thinking about coming along now’s your chance!

This block sees the inclusion of two great new classes, including:

Taster Class (all levels) 8.30 – 9.30pm Wednesdays
Join us for an allsorts class to add to your swinging repertoire! Want to learn the Big Apple? Give Charleston a go? Then this is the class for you!

Glitterbomb Burlesque Level 2 8.30-9.30pm Thursdays
Takes the basics you learnt in level 1 and adds the tease.  Will cover clothing removal, tassel twirling, the use of props and help you develop your own idea’s/personal style

Not for the shy!  Come prepared to “take it off”.

2.  Windy Lindy 2009 Friday 13th – Sunday 15th November! Workshops, Annual Competition, Ball and more!

Well we are on the home stretch now and I hope those costumes and routines are coming along nicely!

If you haven’t already sorted out your ball tickets, get in quick as we won’t be having any door sales. At just $45 for a fantastic night of entertainment, great music from the Liberty Swing band, supper and a HUGE dance floor who could resist! A cash bar will be available on the night too along a few surprises!

If you’ve still got energy to burn afterwards, head along to Damon’s who will be hosting a Blues after-party into the wee small hours! Contact us for details and directions, or share a cab after the ball.

After the Sunday workshop we will be having a nice leisurely lunch at the Macs Brewery from 12.00 before hitting Queens Wharf for some dancing under the sails to cap off the weekend in swinging style. We do need numbers for Macs, so if you’re planning on joining us could you please let either Phil or Racheal know so we can let Mac’s know ahead of time.

3. Christmas Happy Feet Dance, December 5th St Michaels Church Hall from 7.30pm $5 and bring a plate

I know, I know, it’s not Christmas yet, but it’s creeping up pretty damn quickly! Mark your calendars for the last Happy Feet for the year and celebrate the start of the silly season with some serious dancing, or not so serious!

New Orleans Jazz and High Tea with Vaughn Roberts and the Mississippi Pipis, Sunday 8th November: 4.00 - 7.00pm at The Ruby Lounge $10 cover.

Also on the 8th of November, Hot Club Sandwich play at The Jetty, Petone from 6.30pm $35 including meal

Liberty Swing Band 6th December
As always Wellington’s finest big band are playing the first Sunday of each month at the Johnsonville RSA, 139 Johnsonville Road.  Always a great evening, 6pm-8pm, and free entry.

It’s a wee way off yet, but make sure you book some time in for Art Deco Weekend February 18-21st 2010
If you’ve not been before you’re in for a treat and we will be up and running with similar events to last year. An event not to be missed
