March Full Swing Express!
First off, congratulations to Thomas and Hannah, who tied the knot last month. Well done and we wish you all the best for your future happiness together!
This month we have some new and exciting additions coming up that I’m sure you’re going to love.. and some important changes to our City Timetable. Please read on for details!!

1. Introducing the fabulous “Glitterbomb Burlesque”!
Class starts Wednesday 8th April 8.30pm 22 Webb St , Wellington
Let Ms Tittle-Tattle take you through the traditional burlesque basics from shimmies to pin-up posing and more. Learn to command a stage, gain confidence, body awareness and get that little extra oomph.. Whatever you use it for is up to you!
Small and friendly, this is a relaxed and fun course for ladies of all shapes and sizes, focussing on the traditional dance movement and “tease” element of the burlesque era.
Places are strictly limited and registration for the 6 week course is required in advance, so get in quick to secure your place. Bring your high heels and attitude! 18 and over only, please.

2. CLASSES
Please note changes to the next City Block to include Glitterbomb Burlesque. This timetable is on a trial basis so check back with us for times of future blocks as we find the best spot to suit each class.
City studio - 22 Webb St , Wellington (above the Locksmith shop)
Starts Weds 8th April
Level 1 Lindy 6.00 – 7.00pm (new time)
Do you have friends, colleagues or family talking about starting a new hobby or new form of exercise? Bring them along to Beginners and watch them catch the Jitterbug! No partner or previous experienced required. We will take you through the basics and give you the confidence to get out there on the dance floor. Expect lots of great tunes!
Level 2 7.15 – 8.15pm (new time)
For dancers who have completed 2 Beginners blocks or those of you who want to hone their technique. The focus is on building up the basics (swing out, lindy circle etc) and lead/follow techniques while having a lot of fun. We can now link up moves, add styling and learn to play with the music.
Glitterbomb Burlesque - Level 1 8.30-9.30pm (new class)
This is a fantastic introductory 6 week course in the fine art of traditional vintage burlesque, taught by our very own Ms Tittle-Tattle. Places are strictly limited to 30 fabulous ladies and attendance is by registration for the 6 week course only. Email now to secure your spot.
Petone studio - Wilford School Hall on William Street
Starts Thurs 9th April
Level 1 Lindy 7 - 8pm
See description above. Fantastic large floor, plenty of room to practise your swinging moves. This is usually a more intimate class which offers great 1 on 1 time!
Social practice time 8.00-8.30
Come along early or stay after class for some social time. Teachers will be on hand to help with any questions you may have.
Level 2/3 Lindy 8.30 – 9.30pm
Classes focus on pushing those swing limits! This is a mixed level class for those starting level 2 and those progressing to level 3, with a focus on individual attention!
Cost: All courses cost $60 per person for a 6 class pass, valid at either venue.

3. Local Gig Guide
Dances are where it all comes together. You’ve worked hard in class to pick up the steps and sweated on getting them right so join the gang and head out for some fun and to practice your moves.

The first Sunday Tea Dance for the year is now just two weeks away, so we hope that you will join us and enjoy another four hours of dancing and refreshments in the Hutt City Musical Theatre Hall. Thanks to those who have already booked as the bookings are important for catering purposes and as usual, the tickets are available for purchase at the door.

Also playing regularly at the New Orleans Dinner Club is the wonderful crooner, Charlie Kurtz!
Charlie will be performing Saturday nights between 7.30 and 10.30pm and would love to have some dancers along.. He’s even had a chat about moving some tables to allow us some dancing space!
Come along and support Charlie by having a drink or a meal earlier in the night and see if we can make this a regular dancing haunt!

Liberty Swing Band playing the 1st Sunday every month (April 4th) at the Johnsonville RSA and with a later time of 6.00-8.00pm
It is open entry with no cover charge - just sign the visitor book on entry. There is a large dance floor and reasonably priced drinks, with a $10.00 roast dinner in the RSA Restaurant commencing at 5.00pm.

4. Upcoming events in NZ, Australia & beyond
MELBOURNE SWING FESTIVAL - Thursday, March 05, 2009 to Monday, March 09, 2009
Join the laughter and the great dancing at one of Melbourne’s premier dance venues on the opening night, cheer or participate in the popular Melbourne Lindy Battle, dance to your hearts content at the MSF Ball on the Saturday night and keep dancing at the Sunday Swing Blues Rave. Throw in the Moomba Festival, and fabulous after parties and it will be another wonderful weekend of dancing. By popular demand the Pajama Party is back to wind up the weekend.
