 Phil

Phil

Phil has been dancing Lindy Hop since 2004, and due to a deep commitment, he has rapidly taken his dancing to a high level. He has taught special workshops at the Auckland Lindy Exchange (100% Pure), Art Deco Napier, and National Tango Festival.

Phil loves the culture of swing, especially the music and clothes. He is known for his sharp shoes and his extensive collection of hats.

 Becky

Becky

Becky came to Full Swing in May 2004 having danced Ballroom, Latin American and New Vogue for the 5 ½ years previous and she hasn’t looked back.

Although she fell in love with Swing at first sight, she feels her obsession deepening with every passing week. She loves the freedom and playful nature of this energetic dance and thinks the unadulterated joy of a faultless swing out is pretty hard to beat.

 Peter

Peter

Peter stumbled across lindy hop by accident halfway through a nine year stint in London, and ended up in the London Swing Dance Society's performance troupe.

He's made the pilgrimage to swing Mecca, Herrang Dance Camp in Sweden, twice, and closer to home travels around New Zealand to events too - the Napier Art Deco festival being a particular favourite.

Peter loves the social side of swing dancing and can usually be found either propping up the bar or being propped up by a dance partner wherever there's a jazz band playing. Where there's no band, he has a huge collection of tunes (and a couple of vintage gramophones) to get the joint jumpin'!

 Sally Ann

Sally Ann

Sally-ann joined Full Swing in January of 2003. Previously a ‘non-dancer’ she has found her bliss in the midst of the swing dance scene and has ‘followed’ her heart out in New York, Singapore, Napier, Auckland and once on a pier in Los Angeles.

Sally-ann’s ‘Perfect Dance’ recipe is: take one smooth Swing tune, add two parts physical conversation, one part imagination, a pinch of humility and a dash of devil may care! Mix together on the dance floor and enjoy with a SMILE to garnish!

 Grace

Grace

Grace is passionate about swing dancing which sees her surrounded by inspirational women and is a wonderful outlet for her femininity.

Dance has been part of her life since starting ballet at age 5 and she fell into swing while living in Salem, Oregon, USA in 1999. She found she could transfer her rock 'n roll dancing experience into swing. Enthused by her first swing dance lesson with Frankie Manning, Grace was hooked. The great jazz music, the smooth moves and the handing down of the ways of yesteryear got her hungry for more. For the past decade her swing dancing has flourished and she has enjoyed the friendships made on the dancefloor. She is inspired by her fellow Full Swing dancing gals and the connection to a glamorous bygone era where womanly wiles were celebrated and enhanced through red lipstick, seamed hosiery, beautiful hair and finding the perfect dance dress.

For Grace swing dancing has become more than a hobby - it's a connection to the woman within and a great way to celebrate life.

Amy

Amy

Amy has been dancing with Full Swing for four years and is one of the clubs most vivacious, colourful and effervescent characters. By day she’s a Costumier and Milliner in the film, tv and theatre industry darling!

Amy embraces her passion for Lindy Hop through her love of vintage fashions from the 1930's, 40's and 50's. She has an extensive collection of vintage fashions and just loves to talk frocks, victory rolls and throw the most divine tea parties.

Ask her for a dance and you’ll be sure to get a flash of that amazing, infectious smile. Words of wisdom for the gals - never leave home without your girdle and seamed stockings!
