No swing dancer can resist a long weekend, if we’re not working all day we want to play! So when Easter came around this year Full Swing dancers scattered across the country to fill up on dancespiration.

With one contingent heading into the wilderness for No. 8 Balboa, a whole bunch of us headed north to the bigger smoke for Crazy Rhythm in Auckland – and play we certainly did! With teachers from all over the world (including Pamela Gaizutyte, Mikey Pedroza, Ramona Staffeld and Sinclair Ang!) leading the Lindy and Solo Jazz charge, there were also extra classes in Tap, Hip Hop, Burlesque and Gogo to keep the dance floors pumping in class and well into the early hours of the morning.

To top it all off, each night included a contest crazier than the last. Saran represented Wellington in the Jack and Jill, making it through to the finals as a leader, and was proud to be among formidable company in the King of the Hill Solo Jazz battle – a fight to the (dance floor) death for as long as the band could play! Finally, a nationwide team took out the mixed styles battle with their smooth Michael Jackson/Gangsta Rap stylings. Crazy Rhythm was a fantastic event, so keep an eye out for Swing Out Central’s next offering and don’t miss out
