Last week without warning our omnipresent teacher/pun maker/studio cat Saran went missing. After posting notices all about town to no avail, we began to lose hope until at last she was spotted – in a dance studio in Auckland! Turns out she hopped a railcar up country to the big smoke, and after a week of sheltering in K Road cafes, listening in doorways for sweet swing sounds and swishing her paws on the smooth wood floors she hopped it right back. You can take the cat out of the city, but you can’t take the swing out of the kid!
To celebrate her return (and boy is she excited), Full Swing has another amazing weekend coming right at ya.
Starting Friday evening we’ve got the international man of music Peter Shackleton trading his tricks on the turntables at 6.30pm, in our FREE Vintage Sounds workshop. Bring your dinner and stick around for Speakeasy at 8, with the finest DJ s and dancing delights, and put all the newfound musical insights to great use on the floor!
Save a little energy though, because on Saturday morning we’re up bright and early to head out for our first ever Full Swing Social Club outing – a leisurely stroll through the Rimutaka Forest Park for a picnic by the river. Starting at 10am, keep an eye on the Facebook page for weather announcements. A great chance to hang out with all the cool cats we dance with while we only have to think about putting one foot in front of the other!
And to round off the weekend, Full Swing is delighted to announce the return of the much loved and very missed Sunday open practice sessions! From 2-4pm the Full Swing studios will be open to anyone who wants to come and work on anything you’re mulling over, from classes or your own dance missions! It’s not a teaching session, just a chance to use the space for cheap and get some of those moves moving. $5 entry, show up on your own for some solo work or BYO partner, find a space and get jamming.
